Es hat sich doch einiges getan in den letzten Monaten auf der kleinen Insel im Atlantik. Das nächste Feis Ile wurde gefeiert, das Beach Rugby Turnier wurde ausgetragen und es gab einen neuen Gewinner.
Nebenbei erschienen zwei neue Distillery Only Abfüllungen: von Lagavulin und Caol Ila.
Hierzu wollen wir Euch unsere ersten Impressionen nicht vorenthalten.

There was quite a lot of action on the tiny little island in the Atlantic. The next Feis Ile has been over for some time, the Beach Rugby Tournament took place last month and has got a new winner.
Besides all these actions two new Distillery Only Bottlings were released: Lagavulin and Caol Ila.
To this we want to let you be part of the first experience we had with these drams.
Caol Ila only at the Distillery 2017 3000btl. 56,8%
Nase : leichter Rauch, süße von Karamell und Milchschokolade mit Spuren von Nüssen. Aber auch Marzipan - der gute deutsche. Wie ein frisch durchgeschnittener Riegel Snickers und etwas Kokosnuss
Mund: sehr süß . Der süßeste Caol Ila den ich je im Glas hatte. Dezenter Rauch und die Süße dominiert, kombiniert mit roten Szechuan Pfeffer. Mit mittlellangem Abgang.
Fazit: wenig Tiefe für einen CI aber wer auf ein süßes Tröpfchen mit nur etwas Rauch steht ist richtig.

Caol Ila only at the Distillery 2017 3000btl. 56,8%
In the nose: hints of smoke with the sweetness of caramell and milk chocolate, traces of nuts. But also Marzipan - the good german one. Like a fresh cut Snickers and some coconut.
On the palate: very sweet. The sweetest Caol Ila I have ever tasted. Distant smoke and a dominating sweetness, combined with red Szechuan pepper. Medium bodied finish.
Summary: for all who love sweet whiskies with decent smoke the ideal dram.

Lagavulin only at the Distillery 2017 7500btl 54,7%.
Nase: Kräuternoten, Zitronenthymian mit Rauchspuren und süße und Aromen von Waldhonig
Mund: Waldhonig mit Zitronenzesten untermalt von Kräutern der Provence. Herrlich ausbalanciert und komplex.
Fazit: Spannend , komplex, lecker und überhaupt nicht langweilig. Durchaus das Resultat verschiedener Fasslagerungen.
Wie der klassische 16er, nur schon zwei Jahre zuvor in "heavily charred casks" dann European oak, wohl zusammen 18yo. Vermählt mit fresh filled American Oak, ca 8yo.

In the nose: Herbal notes, lemon thyme with hints of smoke and the sweetness of forest honey.
On the palate: Forest honey with lemon zest with herbs of Provence. Perfectly balanced and complex.
Exciting, complex, delicious. The result of different cask influences.
Similar to the 16yo but two years before filled in "heavily charred casks". Next first fill European oak, could be aproximately 18yo, vatted with fresh filled American Oak, around 8yo.
